Join us via Zoom for our Spotlight Series Live! virtual breakfast on Tuesday, December 8 for a lively discussion as our expert panelists discuss their unique perspectives on these broad and timely issues.

Esteemed Panelists
J.H. Cullum Clark, Ph.D.
Director, Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative, George W. Bush Institute
Adjunct Professor of Economics, Southern Methodist University

Dr. Clark leads the Bush Institute’s work on domestic economic policy and economic growth. Before joining the Bush Institute and SMU, Dr. Clark worked in the investment industry for 25 years. He previously served as an equity analyst and portfolio manager at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., as a portfolio manager at Warburg Pincus Asset Management, as president and chief investment officer of Cimarron Global Investors, a Dallas-based hedge fund firm, and as president of Prothro Clark Company, a Dallas family investment office. Prior to entering the investment industry, he served for one year on the staff of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Dr. Clark fulfilled a lifelong goal by earning his Ph.D. in Economics at SMU in May 2017, and subsequently joined the faculty of SMU’s Department of Economics. His research has focused on monetary policy, fiscal policy, financial markets, economic geography, urban economics, modern economic history and economic growth.

Dr. Clark’s volunteer leadership activities include serving on the boards of Uplift Education, the Eugene McDermott Foundation, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Foundation for the Arts, as well as on the investment committee of SMU. He earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1989 and an A.M. in political science from Harvard University in 1993 in addition to a Ph.D in Economics from Southern Methodist University in 2017. After graduating from Yale, he lived for one year in Japan. Dr. Clark and his wife Nita have three daughters: Lili, Annabel and Charlotte.

Guy L. Culpepper, M.D.

Dr. Culpepper’s enthusiasm for healthcare and his focus on each patient as an individual has been recognized in numerous honors as one of America’s premier family physicians. Disease prevention is the primary goal of his work. He has expertise in diabetes, cholesterol management and osteoporosis, though caring for children is his greatest joy.

Dr. Culpepper’s leadership has been evident at every stage of his career. During his training, he served as both chief resident in family medicine and as president of the medical and surgical house staff of St. Paul Medical Center. He was the founding chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, where he was honored to serve as the president of the medical staff. His dedication to primary care continues in his leadership of the Jefferson Physician Group, an organization of more than 230 internists, pediatricians and family physicians improving North Texas healthcare since 1995.

A Dallas native, Dr. Culpepper lives in Frisco with his three sons, whose support has made his dedication to his work possible and his leisure time joyful. He enjoys reading, writing, movies, sports and collecting medical antiques and is a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Kyle T. Martin, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist, Private Practice

With 30 years of counseling thousands of clients, Dr. Martin focuses on assessing and treating adults and adolescents in the greater Dallas area on a range of issues including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship, marriage, family, life and career counseling. His approach is to value not only the individual but the process of personal growth and development of healthy life skills. Dr. Martin enjoys the challenge of helping his clients work through emotionally painful experiences and equipping them with skills to handle complex life choices.

Dr. Martin grew up in Dallas, where his interest in helping youth and families was forged when he volunteered as a Young Life leader at a local high school and further developed when he worked in adolescent inpatient units at Timberlawn Hospital, Austin State Hospital and Green Oaks Hospital during his undergraduate and graduate school studies.

Dr. Martin earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology with special honors from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in counseling psychology from University of North Texas, including a family therapy practicum at the Southwest Family Institute, and a doctor of philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in counseling psychology from University of North Texas.

Over the last 30 years, Dr. Martin’s practice has grown to be less about hospital work and primarily focused on outpatient therapy for adults, couples, adolescents and families, while allowing some time for teaching and writing. Dr. Martin is married to Mary Martin, a Licensed Professional Counselor. They and their three children enjoy scuba diving, white water rafting and paragliding around the world.

Matthew Wilson, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Southern Methodist University 

Dr. Wilson‘s work focuses on public opinion, elections, representation, political psychology, religion and politics, principally in the United States but also from a comparative and international perspective. He is the author, co-author or editor of three books and more than a score of articles and essays, including multiple pieces in The American Journal of Political Science and The Journal of Politics. His most recent works include Understanding American Politics (University of Toronto Press) and Religion and Politics in the United States (Routledge Press), both published in 2013.

Professor Wilson‘s research has been funded by grants from the American Political Science Association, the University Research Council, the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies and the Sam Taylor Fund of the United Methodist Church. His teaching has been honored with a HOPE Professor of Excellence award from SMU‘s Department of Residence Life and with a teaching fellowship from the Cary Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility.

In addition to his teaching and research, Professor Wilson frequently gives public lectures on various aspects of American politics and routinely serves as a commentator on political affairs for local, national and international media outlets. He is a regular contributor to The Dallas Morning News “Texas Faith” blog on religion in public life.

Dr. Wilson earned a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, in history and political science from Louisiana State University, a master of arts degree in political science from Duke University and a Ph.D. degree in political science from Duke University.

Stephen P. Konstans (Moderator)
Senior Vice President & Financial Officers Practice Leader, Pearson Partners International

An experienced veteran of the retained executive search business, Stephen Konstans has spent more than 20 years helping companies secure candidates for critical executive roles. He has special expertise in filling high-level finance and accounting positions such as chief financial officer or controller.

Stephen has served as a speaker, moderator and panelist at networking groups including Financial Executives International Dallas Chapter, Financial Executives Networking Group Dallas Chapter, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants, the Wharton and Northwestern Alumni Clubs of Dallas/Fort Worth and many other organizations. He has also served as a moderator for several Pearson Partners International Spotlight Series breakfast events.

Stephen serves on the advisory board for the Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance and is president of the Trinity Christian Academy Alumni Association Board. He serves on the Parish Council for the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where he is also a Sunday school teacher and has served on several boards and committees. He previously served on the boards of Executives In Action and the SMU Business Associate Program, where he was named Mentor of the Year.

Stephen is a former Certified Public Accountant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from Southern Methodist University and has continued graduate studies at The University of Texas at Dallas. He spends his free time teaching Sunday school and spending time with his wife, three daughters and grandson.
